Full Moon February 28, 2010

The Public Mood: ‘Kicking the can down the street’.
For most of the beginning of the first decade of the 21st Century, we have had the planet Uranus (sudden changes, unusual developments, revolutionary processes), Neptune (altered states, inspiration, illusions or delusions), and lately Chiron (wounder and healer, bridge to higher mind and cosmos) and the planet Jupiter (expansion, conflation) – all hanging around and playing tag (especially the past couple years) with the mood of the nation (aspecting the US Moon – 28 Aquarius).
We feel inspired, then disillusioned – and any thought of action moves in fits and starts, but does not get underway. In a sense, Neptune inspires – but also confounds and confuses. Inspiration is confounded by ideology. We get irrational thinking processes, and take a step backwards. We are inspired to move ahead with new ideas, and then fall back as we sense the pain that could result from new directions and what must be faced in a process of healing.
Aside from Mars making a brief foray into Leo, most of the planets have been in the earth/air/water signs of ‘winter’ for the past several months. With Mars making a long retrograde motion backwards through Leo (which will finally return to direct motion in mid-March 2010) – we are stalled emotionally and actually in a hibernation of inaction.
Pluto also seems stalled in Capricorn, as it turned in apparent retro-grade motion not long after changing signs. It rumbles deep beneath the surface of events and promises profound changes to come in the bedrock upon which we stand.
We have also had the oppositions during 2008-2009 of Saturn in Virgo (analysis of process and purity of method) representing the forces of the status quo pitted against the urge for change and dramatic developments of Uranus in Pisces (which ironically represents the old guard, or the idealization of it) – which has manifested, not as an urge for revolutionary change, but as a rear-guard action to return to a previous status quo.
With Saturn having recently entered Libra, sign of its exaltation – where it now challenges (in square aspect to) the subterranean Pluto in Capricorn, actually dispositing (overlaying the action of) Pluto, as Capricorn is the natural sign of Saturn – we will begin to sense the direction and form in which change will begin to manifest. These changes will begin with new alliances, co-operation and partnerships.
At the Full Moon on February 28th, 2010 (chart drawn for easternmost point in the US) the Sun and Jupiter at 9 degrees of Pisces at the mid-heaven will oppose the Moon at 9 degrees Virgo along the 4th/10th House axis. This will bring more transparency and harmony to the process of change, and more confidence that changes will strengthen our foundations. With the planets Uranus and Venus in Pisces – just preceding Sun/Jupiter through the 10th House – some unique and charismatic leaders should also emerge to inspire us.

Chile Earthquake Feb 27, 2010

Magnitude 8.8 Quake - Offshore Maule, Chile
Here is a chart cast for the recent 8.8 magnitude earthquake off the Maule Region, Chile. The most striking aspect is the Mid-heaven conjunction by exact degree with a retrograde Saturn at 3 degrees Libra.
The subterranean planet Pluto in the earth sign of Capricorn lies in the 12th House of matters hidden and of events moving toward the ending of cycles – in square aspect (tension) with Saturn at the Mid-heaven.
Other indications of the timing of this event is the Moon at 18 degrees Leo moving into exact fateful inconjunct aspect (150 degrees) with the earth sign Capricorn rising at 18 degrees indicating ‘adjustment’ – (with the slippage of the tectonic plates). Mars in the angles of the chart – here in the 7th House – indicates action which manifests in the physical world.
Given the violence and magnitude of the quake, it is a blessing more lives were not lost and more substantial damage sustained. The line-up of planets in Aquarius through Pisces, including the Sun and beneficent Jupiter in sextile aspect to Pluto, provided some mitigating forces to contain the scope of this disaster.

Perigee Moon January 30, 2010

..from itwire
“A “perigee Moon”. Earth’s only natural satellite-the Moon-will put on a dramatic up-in-the sky show Friday night.
Catch the lunar excitement, and it’s free to all observers! Just look up into the night sky!
A perigee Moon simply means that the orbit of the Moon around the Earth is in the shape of an ellipse (kinda like a slightly smashed circle), with one end (its perigee) being shorter in distance than the other end (its apogee).
So, the perigee Moon is at its closest point from the Earth, and it will appear bigger and brighter to us observers here on Earth.
In fact, the full Moon, the first one in 2010, that occurs on Friday night will be about 14% wider and approximately 30% brighter than any other full Moon seen in 2010.”

Full Moon January 30, 2010

Full Moon January 30, 2010
January’s Full Moon is still pretty much a winter theme, with 7 planets and Chiron in the earth, air and water signs from Capricorn to Pisces. Emphasis is on practical matters, thought, reflection, and the refining of emotions – with little enthusiasm or action. The Full Moon in the Fire sign of Leo and conjunct Mars in Leo provides the exception, and a reminder that we need to supply a little warmth and action to keep a healthy balance. Mars is in apparent retrograde motion over a course of several weeks, until mid-March – which furthers stifles the impulse to `just be’ and to `lighten up’ a little.
Many of us are concerned with personal finances and the general economy, and the tragic earthquake in Haiti. With Jupiter just entering the sign of Pisces, the international community has responded with generous support and compassion to the disaster in Haiti. As bad as things may be in our personal lives, we realize how fragile many of our own communities are when faced with natural disasters of this magnitude.
The `outer’, slower moving planets which determine the larger picture of government, the economy, world events and natural events – have all been in earth, air and water signs for all of 2009, with the planet Pluto the last to leave a fire sign in January 2008. Fire signs fuel and influence action, creativity and outgoing expression. This January 30th Full Moon in Leo, conjunct Mars in Leo (although retrograde) should remind us of the joys of more `lightness of being’. We should focus on ways to be more creative, expressive and outgoing as we move toward spring. The planet Uranus is poised to enter the Fiery sign of Aries toward the end of May this year, and we can expect a lot of `fireworks’ then.

Planetary Cycles

Cosmic Dance
Response to W regarding ‘Mid Life Crisis:
The challenges and opportunities for each of us are revealed with the aspects of the transiting planets to the planets in our natal charts. The more significant aspects are those made by the ‘outer’, or slower moving planets as their effects are felt over a longer period of time.
For instance, it takes the Moon only 29 days or so to complete a circuit through all the signs. The Sun has a cycle of one year, and Mercury, Venus and Mars also move relatively swiftly around all the signs ( a year to one and a half years). These aspects will occur again and again with more regularity through the year – to year and a half.
The slower moving planets – Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus and Pluto have cycles of many years – hence their significance for deeper changes and focus. Their aspects take time to develop and affect us for longer periods of time.
Steven Forrest discusses which planets are involved in the cycles of the slower moving planets, and the timing of these aspects and how they relate to other sensitive aspects of the individual chart.
Usually, there are these significant aspects going on in the charts of most of us, although which houses and planets are being affected differs for each of us.
The cycles of these outer planets are fairly regular, and happen generally within a similar range of years. For instance – the aspect of the ‘Saturn Return’ will occur for everyone at about ages 27 1/2 – 30 years. An ‘Uranus Opposition’ will occur in the early 40s. The planet Pluto moves so slowly that it will traverse only a little more than half the zodiac in our lifetimes. And so on…
Steven Forrest does a fantastic job in explaining some of these aspects and their affects. Often, you need to re-read his reports a few times to get the most understanding.
Hopes this helps. Also, quite often people order these reports when significant changes are occuring!
Presently persons with planets in the signs of Libra, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces – are experiencing the conjunction of these outer planets to their planets in these signs. Others with planets in the signs of Aries, Cancer, Leo and Virgo – are experiencing the opposition of these outer planets.
Some of the changes we are all feeling also relate to the cycles of the Moon, especially the full moons – and how we experience these events individually, and as a nation. Will soon have an article up on the Astrology Cafe Wordpress about the January 30th Full Moon.
Again – hope this is helpful…

Messy Recount in Massachusetts?

Jan 19, 2010: Polls Open Boston Massachusetts
*Here’s a chart for polls opening Jan 19th, 2009 (6 AM) Boston, Mass:
Astrological indicators seem to point to a peoples ‘referendum’ on the Govt and a strong anti-incumbent movement in Massachusetts. There are also indications of a last ditch effort on behalf of the status quo. There may well be a dead heat, and protracted recount. If that doesn’t happen, late returns/efforts may see Coakley squeek by.
Am continuing to analyze these aspects, and if I come up with something more definitive (astrologically speaking) I’ll post it here.

January 2010 Planets
Saturn: The Lord of the Rings
As the new year opens January 2010, there are six planets in cardinal/initiating signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn), a signature of creative energy arising, and a new focus for the lingering problems of the previous decade.
Saturn, entering Libra, the sign of its exaltation, marks out its territory this month as it makes an unusual ’station’ at 4*39 Libra for seven days before turning in apparent retrograde motion on January 14th. The Sabian symbol interpretation for 4-5 degrees Libra is: ‘A Foundation of Inner Knowledge upon which a ‘new world’ could be built’. As a harbinger of a ‘new world’ perspective – one of NASA’s telescopes has captured an image of a new blue ring around Saturn (previously unseen). Saturn here will be initiating and balancing alliances.
Mercury at 18 degrees Capricorn and Mars at 18 degrees Leo, are each in retrograde motion, and in exact inconjunct aspect – a time for thought (Mercury) and action (Mars) to become more introspective – and for interacting towards reconciliation and adjustment before moving forward again. Mercury goes direct in motion first, on January 16th, while Mars has an unusually long retrograde period all through January and February, and will go direct in March. While sometimes frustrating, thought will generally proceed action through this influence, setting a better course in the beginning of a new year and a new decade.

Full Moon Dec 31st, 2009
A Full Blue Moon following the Winter Solstice.
The turning to the Light is underway, yet the process of the long winter’s reflection has just begun. This December’s 2nd Full Moon is accompanied by a retro-grade Mercury and a retro-grade Mars.
The conjunction of Jupiter, Neptune and Chiron in Aquarius in the 10th house of the ‘public persona’ and the planet of change, Uranus in Pisces in the 11th house of hopes and desires – help continue the expectations of ’something out there’ along the lines of ‘change’ in smooth transition with the ’status quo’ will come to the rescue of the public weal in these trying times.
Inner thought and delayed action are highlighted. The planets Pluto, Venus, Sun and Mercury are in the practical and ambitious sign of Capricorn – in square aspect to Capricorn’s Ruler Saturn, currently sojourning in the sign of Libra. The Full Moon is in the second house of ‘values’ and ‘finance’ of the chart cast for the easternmost point in the US – a symbolic point representing ‘the people’ of the nation – and Mars hesitates at the cusp of the 4th house of foundation, security and family. The emphasis is on finances and strengthening the security of the home and hearth. There is a mood of careful balancing of structures which will support nurturing and the protection of personal boundaries.

Astrology Fall 2009 Equinox
Balancing and moving on…Fall Equinox Sept 22, 2009

Fall Equinox 2009 Astrology Chart
Fall Equinox at easternmost point in US – West Quoddy Point, Lubec Maine.
The graphic here – with its rosy touch of dawn – a symbolic representation of Venus, now the Morning Star, lending its influence as it enters the seventh house of agreement and alliances.
We continue here with the tradition of casting charts for these events in the US from the easternmost point in the US – as a ‘peoples chart’ for the mood of the nation.
The past several months have been stormy, emotional and confrontational across the fault lines of ideology in dealing with change and public events. The idealism of the Triple Conjunction of Jupiter, Neptune and Chiron on the nation’s Moon in Aquarius has revealed the dark side of idealism, which is obsession and fanaticism. This effect has been heightened in the recent return of the Saturn/Uranus opposition from Virgo/Pisces – which was in effect during the election of 2008.
In the desire for change – the mood of Uranus, the planet of change and elemental disruption, has been operating from the influence of Pisces in a negative manifestation of hysterics, emotionalism, drama and self-immolation.
We now reach a balance point at the Fall Equinox – with the Sun entering Libra to Square Pluto at 0 degrees Capricorn in the 10th house (the public). A more sobering aspect and a time for reassessment of the direction change we want to manifest.
Mercury in Virgo, the sign of its rulership, is in retrograde aspect and conjunct Saturn – the stable status quo element which is resisting Uranian change. This placement of Mercury indicates a time of more inward adjustment and pause for reflection in the course of events. ‘Be careful what you wish for’. Retrograde Mercury here also suggests an assessment of rumors and rumblings below the surface – and new information coming to us – likely after September 28th when Mercury resumes direct motion, and especially as it rejoins Saturn around October 7th/8th.
Saturn, Mercury in Virgo in the seventh house of agreements and alliances, accompanied by Athene (Goddess of Wisdom), and with Venus on the cusp of the seventh – shows moderating influences and energies for co-operation.
Mars at 17 degrees of Cancer shows energy being directed toward finances and the healing and nurturing of family.
The Part of Fortune just entering the second house indicates an easing of financial stresses, and in the sign of Aries – of a return to values of self-reliance, confidence and initiative.
Key concepts here: Balancing, and moving forward more constructively.
